Faith in your dieting????

Sheila asked a question over on her blog today: So, here is a plea from me to you ~ how to do bring God and your faith into your "diet"? Do you? I have "faith", but I surely need someone more experienced to help me.

I am a firm believer that you cannot do it alone, you have to have faith, but you must also have the works to go along with it. I don't feel like you can lose weight by faith alone (although wouldn't that be a nice though? I honestly believe in this verse from the bible:
James 2:17-26

17Even so faith, if it hath not works, is dead, being alone.

18Yea, a man may say, Thou hast faith, and I have works: shew me thy faith without thy works, and I will shew thee my faith by my works.

19Thou believest that there is one God; thou doest well: the devils also believe, and tremble.

20But wilt thou know, O vain man, that faith without works is dead?

21Was not Abraham our father justified by works, when he had offered Isaac his son upon the altar?

22Seest thou how faith wrought with his works, and by works was faith made perfect?

23And the scripture was fulfilled which saith, Abraham believed God, and it was imputed unto him for righteousness: and he was called the Friend of God.

24Ye see then how that by works a man is justified, and not by faith only.

25Likewise also was not Rahab the harlot justified by works, when she had received the messengers, and had sent them out another way?

26For as the body without the spirit is dead, so faith without works is dead also.

Faith without the works to go along with it is dead, meaning you must do the work AND have the faith in order to rely on God for your weight loss journeys. Which means, you can't stuff your face full of crappy fattening foods, candy, and the likes, sit on the couch all day and do nothing, drink soda etc and pray that you lose weight (that is unless you have the metabolism of my oldest brother Danny who can eat anything without gaining weight). You must pray for his help, to have strength to overcome and avoid temptations but you must also put forth some works/effort in your weight loss, you must eat healthy (whatever works for you whether it be calorie counting, low carbing, weight watchers, etc), you must be active and exercise, and you must drink enough water so your body can process the food you put into it.

So I hope this helps. I am a firm believer in the fact that you must have 'faith & works' and not just faith alone. God is standing at the door knocking, we have to open it and let him into our lives, and allow him to help us.

Thank you Heather! I often have the works, but when it comes to my weightloss I haven't really put my faith in it.

I noticed that I become more health conscious when I draw closer to the Lord, He makes me want to treat my body healthier so I can live life to its fullest ;)

Without Him, I am lost!
